Fic Notes: In Another Galaxy

Chapter 5: Good Night Baby

Yuuta watches on, aghast, as their sensei antagonizes the most dangerous curse in existence.

THE ART FOR THIS FIC IS REAL.

I don't know what came over me. I was playing a lot of girl's band party, obviously. I sort of clowned myself because I used Chu2 cards as the base for the first two chapter covers then realized I don't actually like her, and now idk Yuuki's very up in the air. Honestly her idol persona is inspired by the Pastel Palette's pink charm, Maruyama Aya, so I may as well just stick with that.

Pastel Palettes:

Nobuko Takada

Age: 28 | Height: 180cm (5'11") | Hair color: Black | Eye color: Gold | Star Sign: Gemini

Started her as a runway and editorial model and launched a career as the 'tall girl idol'. Is also a fairly famous actress who lands rolls in big time movies regularly. Her fans were befuddled at her sudden decision to join a girl idol group. She actually agreed to it because she liked the idea of being able to mentor younger girls in a manner she wished someone could have done for her when she first started. She has a soft spot for her youngest kouhai, Yuuki. She's actually a very shrewd and meticulous person. I made her a mixed baby in this AU because I love the idea of this superstar idol who breaks every idol mold - namely being pale, very skinny and very small - and being celebrated for being different.

Shirisagi Chisato

Age: 26 | Height: 165cm (5'5") | Hair color: Blonde | Eye color: Purple | Star Sign: Aries

A child actress, she's been famous her entire life. She's a household name in Japan in a similar manner to Takada, but entirely for film. She only agreed to be an idol because of Takada. The two have a deep mutual respect for each other, even if they tend to butt heads on the more corporate decisions of the group. They also have the most seniority by a long shot. She's a very rational and decisive person, and while her personality is not at all what most people think of when they think of idols, people love her for it.

Yamato Maya

Age: 24 | Height: 170 cm (5'7") | Hair color:Brown | Eye color: Green | Star Sign: Scorpio

A classically trained musician voted best voice in the group. She actually prefers bands to idol groups. She's a calm and steady person, although she does get flustered easily. Actually hates crowds. She writes most of their songs and ghost-writes for plenty of other groups. While she prefers to be the person behind the curtain, she also appreciates how much the experience of being the one on the stage has helped her understand music more.

Itadori Yuuki

Age: 16 | Height: 173cm (5'8") | Hair color: Pink Eye color: Gold | Star Sign: Pisces

The youngest in the group by almost ten years, although most people don't realize how young she is until they look it up. She wasn't actually supposed to be part of the group, having been signed on to the company as a model, but Inoue Reiko desperately wanted her as part of their newest debuting girl group. She's funny and witty and easily the best dancer of the group. She credits her ability to pick up any dance move almost automatically to her natural athleticism.

OK so my characterization of Sukuna stems from a very specific line in the manga/anime where basically its stated 'Sukuna lives for his own pleasures'.

I firmly believe Sukuna unabashedly and unashamedly enjoys anything that ‘brings him joy’ to the fullest extent, things including but not limited to; the casual evisceration of various humans, chaos in all its forms, really great food and alcohol, bloodshed and mayhem, and anything that’s interesting enough or pretty enough to catch his eye. Basically if he likes it, he’s indulging in it, because he lives only for his own pleasures.

On Gojo’s hair-raising antics with Sukuna: Gojo’s a total irreverent punk who absolutely says the most audacious things just to see how people will react, and he definitely suffers from some foot-in-mouth syndrome when it comes to Sukuna (mainly, I think, because he’s not used to people keeping up with him/surprising him), but that’s not all there is to it. At this point in the story he’s managed to figure out that an occupied Sukuna is a Sukuna not in the mood to commit manslaughter. By making himself Sukuna’s focal point he keeps him firmly preoccupied with Gojo, and therefore unlikely to turn his attention (and possible ire) onto someone less equipped to handle it. Does this strategy work? Definitely. Does it also put Gojo in a lot of increasingly compromising positions with our favorite king of curses? Also yes.

TL:DR, Gojo is playing gay chicken with Sukuna to keep his attention solely on Gojo, and it’s working perhaps a bit better than he intended.

And of course my boy Yuuta getting some major screen time in this chapter after I watched the movie on opening night. Writing Gojo and Yuuta together is actually a fucking treat. He's all 'should we really do this sensei'? And Gojo's all like 'fuck yeah' and then throws a molotov cocktail into a trash can.

Also with the manga on hiatus and my heart still frozen in the prison realm with Gojo I decided we’d get some minor plot progression this chapter but mostly comfort because the manga is all hurt right now.

*Ginjo-shu is a type of sake, that theoretically should have been around when Sukuna was still at large.

*"Those eyes give him a terrible evolutionary advantage. Like nice spots on a toad." Is the original quote from Magneticwave's MASTERPIECE Queen of spades. It was too good to pass up in reference to the Six Eyes here lol.

*In Good Night Baby the chapter song, the actual line is 'yumemiru, good night baby' - which is more like 'dream away', but I'm translating it as 'sleep well and sweet dreams, good night baby'. And yeah that song is #1 most played on Gojo's spotify and he definitely didn't realize he'd direct quoted it at Yuuki until it came on while he was singing in the shower and then he had an existential crisis.
